The Parish of Fairmilehead

The Parish of Fairmilehead lies to the south of Edinburgh in the foothills of the Pentlands.  It is focused on the crossroads of the A702 and B701 where the church is located.  The Parish is a typical Edinburgh suburban area of bungalows and detached and semi-detached villas built almost continuously from the 1930s onwards.  The main roads define the four communities of Caiystane, Swanston, Winton and Buckstone.

Education for the Parish is provided by Pentland and Buckstone Primary Schools and by Firrhill and Boroughmuir High Schools but only Buckstone Primary School is located within the Parish.

The Parish is 6.52 sq kilometres in size with a population estimated to be 7,096 living in some 2,751 households.  There are a high number of pre-school and school age children in the Parish, a lower proportion of those in the student and young adult age groups (16-44) but a higher number in the older (45-60 and over 60 years) age groups.
