A Wedding at Fairmilehead Parish Church

Fairmilehead Parish Church is well placed to provide you with a memorable day for your wedding!

Our church is part of the Church of Scotland and functions as a parish church within a specially designated geographical area.  We normally don't conduct marriages for people who live outside our parish boundaries without the permission of the local parish minister in whose area the couple live.

A church wedding differs from a civil ceremony in that it is set within the context of the Christian faith and we would expect those who want to marry in church to acknowledge this in their lives and actions.  It is not necessary for couples to be members of the church but we would hope that they would take steps towards becoming a member.  Classes for new members are held twice a year in the spring and autumn.

To help you with your plans, we've prepared a comprehensive booklet with advice, information and contact details covering subjects as diverse as divorcees, mixed marriages, the marriage notices (banns), the ceremony and even speeches!  Click on your wedding to download this wedding booklet or contact the church office for more information about planning your wedding.

"I may be able to speak the languages of men and even of angels, but if I have no love, my speech is no more  than a noisy gong or a clanging bell.  I may have the gift of inspired preaching;  I may have all knowledge and understand all secrets;  I may have all the faith needed to move mountains - but if I have no love, I am nothing.  I may give away everything I have, and even give up my body to be burnt - but if I have no love, this does me no good.  Love is patient and kind;  it is not jealous or conceited or proud;  love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable;  love does not keep a record of wrongs;   love is not happy with evil but is happy with the truth.  Love never gives up;  and its faith, hope and patience never fail.  Love is eternal ...... When I was a child, my speech, feelings, and thinking were all those of a child;  now that I am a man, I have no more use for childish ways.  What we see now is like a dim image in a mirror;  then we shall see face to face.  What I know now is only partial;  then it will be complete - as complete as God's knowledge of me.  Meanwhile these three remain:  faith, hope, and love;  and the greatest of these is love".  1 Corinthians 13

If, after reading the booklet you would like more information before deciding what to do please don't hesitate to contact the Minister via the Church Office (0131 445 2374) or by e-mail.  The Minister will be happy to help in any way they can at this early stage in the planning of your special day.
